SAND BENCH

"Symbol of remembrance" of the volunteers combating the catastrophic flood of 2002 in Bitterfeld (Germany). Produced in 2003 / 05

217’ long ( 66 m ), ca. 4’ high ( 1,20 m )
3 tonnes of blue-painted steel.

The 217’ bench retraces a section of the sandbag dike constructed during the
flood catastrophe of 2002. Riveted to the
bench’s backrest are 2200 stainless
steel plates, laser engraved with the
names and hometowns of the volunteers who had come from all across Germany. Thus a seat is reserved for every helper
on the bench memorial.
